About

Me

Who am i?

My name is Whitney Demarest, and Im a junior at Washington State University in Pullman, WA only a short drive from my hometown of Spokane, WA! I am pursuing a degree in Strategic Communications with a double minor in Digital Technology Culture, and Entrepreneurship. For the last six months, I have been working as a marketing intern for the WSU Athletics Marketing and Promotions department. I am super thankful for the opportunity, and plan on working for them for the next two years! Being apart of the department has led me to realize my passion for working with the marketing side of athletics. After college, I would love to pursue a career in sports marketing, ideally with the Seattle Sounders, Seahawks, or Mariners.

On top of loving sports, I have a huge love for all things graphic design. Once I am financially able, I would love to open my own private graphic design business. I could spend hours and hours creating projects in photoshop, premiere, illustrator, after effects, and audition! I might not be the best at it yet, but I am determined to be the best. It think more than anything else, it is fascinating to me the story you can tell, or the information you can convey through a graphic or video which essentially is a piece of art.

While I would love to spend all day in a coffee shop working on an adobe project, that is a completely unrealistic dream for my crazy life and semester! I always have a million and one things going on, but I love it, I LOVE being crazy busy! I love having a schedule and hurrying from one thing to another; I have found that the busier I am, the better I do in school and life, and the less I have going on, the worse I do in school and the less organized I am! I think I am able to have so much on plate at one time because I love everything I do and am apart of! I love my internship with the athletic department; I love spending hours in the studio and on the field as a WSU Crimson Girl; I love taking 18 credits because all my classes directly relate to one of my passions; and most importantly, I love volunteering at my church. Life is CRAZY, but there is so much to be joyful about and (obviously) I LOVE life!

From this class, I hope to improve on my writing abilities through this blog. I want to better understand what advertising strategies draw a reader’s attention to a certain an advertisement, or blog that at some point becomes viral/highly followed. The focus of my blog is photography, and while I’m excited to teach my reader about the graphic digital art, I am even more excited to learn new photography skills this semester, and learn how to best communicate those skills to help teach others through my blog.
